Canton Voters Decide Budgets, Will Taxes Rise?
Voters made a resounding decision late last week at the polls regarding how their tax dollars will be spent in 2025-26.

CANTON, CT — Voters have approved nearly $51 million in municipal spendingfor the next fiscal year, and taxes are slated to increase further.
Referendum voters easily said "yes" at the polls last Thursday, May 8, with the single-question vote resulting in an approved town/school budget with 714 "yes" votes to 571 "no" votes

• A $50.82 million combined town/school budget is $2.2 million — or 4.54 percent — larger than current spending.
• That includes a $13.1 million general government budget, which is $716,749 — or 5.79 percent — larger.

• It also includes a $34.89 million education budget, which is $1.97 million — or 5.98 percent — larger.
According to the town, this proposed budget would require a mill rate of 33.5 (the second year of a planned revaluation phase-in program), which is 1.65 mills larger than the current mill rate.
That means, for a home assessed at $250,000, the new tax bills this year would be $412.50 larger than last year.
