CANTON, CT — With the Town of Canton beginning its annual push to create a new spending plan for the next fiscal year, residents are invited to a new type of meeting next week on the topic.

The Canton Board of Selectmen on Wednesday, Feb. 19, will host its first-ever "Town Hall Round Table" on proposed spending.

It will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Canton Community Center's Room B, 40 Dyer Ave., Canton.

The municipal budget not only plays a key role in what a town and school system can provide in services, but it also plays a major role in determining how much taxpayers will have to pay in a given year.

"As the Town begins the journey on the road to a developed budget for FY 2025-2026, I wanted to let you know of a new 'pit stop' that has been added," wrote Canton First Selectman Kevin Witkos in a message to residents.

The Feb. 19 gathering, Witkos said, is one week following the budget presentations by the chief administrative officer and department directors.

"The design and intent of the round table is to hear additional comments from the public and offer bidirectional communication between the public and town government," Witkos said.

Selectmen will answer questions from the public and take input on the town’s side of the budget, before acting on a 2025-26 budget.

The budget then goes to its "next stop,” Witkos said, the Canton Board of Finance.
