Driver Sent to Hospital After One-Car Crash on Dowd Avenue in Canton

Officials say injuries did not appear serious.

An elderly woman was sent to the hospital following a crash on Dowd Avenue in Canton on Monday, officials said.

Shortly before noon, the woman was driving alone when her vehicle veered offroad, knocked down fencing on a small bridge and landed on the sidewalk near the road's intersection with East Hill, Simonds Ave. and Old Canton Road, officials said.

The woman did not appear to be seriously injured but received medical attention as a precaution, officials said.

The scene caused some traffic diversions and fire police directed motorists while other members of the town of Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department worked to remove the woman from the vehicle.

Police officers worked at the scene and are investigating the crash.
