Expanding Gourmet Burger Chain Coming To Canton

CANTON, CT — A rapidly expanding gourmet, fast-casual burger chain is coming to a prominent shopping destination in Canton.

The Shops at Farmington Valley announced this month that Shake Shack — which calls itself "the modern-day 'roadside' burger stand" — will open at the Shops at Farmington Valley next summer in 2026.

It is known for made-to-order Angus beef burgers, crinkle-cut fries, and hand-spun shakes.

The Canton location will be opening its first location in the Farmington Valley next summer.

Currently, the New York City-based "Shake Shack" has about 600 locations worldwide, but it reportedly has plans to expand to 1,500.

There are Shake Shack locations already open in Danbury, Darien, South Windsor, New Haven, Newington, Stamford, West Hartford, and Westport.

The Shops at Farmington Valley, which is located at 110 Albany Turnpike (Route 44), is an outdoor shopping destination featuring 45 speciality stores, major retailers, and myriad dining options.

According to Shops officials, Shake Shack should fit in perfectly when it opens next year.

“Shake Shack is more than just a place to grab a bite. It’s a cultural phenomenon, and we’re incredibly excited to welcome them to The Shops at Farmington Valley,” said Elizabeth Ackerman, general manager of The Shops at Farmington Valley.

She said Shake Shack's announcement comes as the shopping destination continues to add new tenants.

“This announcement underscores the incredible leasing momentum we’ve experienced in 2025, with Sweetgreen, FP Movement, Warby Parker, and J.Crew Factory all choosing to open at The Shops," Ackerman said.

"These best-in-class brands reflect our vision to curate an unparalleled mix of fashion, dining, and lifestyle experiences. The arrival of Shake Shack further brings that vision to life, continuing to elevate The Shops as the premier destination in the region.”

The new Canton Shake Shack will offer both indoor and outdoor seating.
