Lower Speed Limits Unveiled On Canton Roadway: Police

The new, lower speed limits came after town and state officials conducted a major traffic study.

CANTON, CT — Motorists traveling in a busy stretch of local roadway have to watch their speed.

That's because the Canton Police Department this week announced that Dowd Avenue/Maple Avenue (aka Route 565) has new speed limits in a couple of sections, both lower than before.

Police said the new signs are already up and motorists should abide by them.

2. The speed limit has been reduced from 35 mph to 25 mph in both directions on Route 565 (Maple Avenue/Dowd Avenue), from Mills Lane/Atwater Road to a point approximately 0.25 miles east of East Hill Road.

Police said the changes cam after "an extensive traffic study" conducted by the Town of Canton and the state Department of Transportation.

"As many have already noticed, the new signs have been installed. Please reduce your speed and adhere to the new speed limit," wrote police.
