Major Outdoor Retailer's 'Bootmobile' Coming To Canton

L.L. Bean will be at The Shops of Farmington Valley in Canton Dec. 16-17 with a 'pop-up store' towed by its beloved boot vehicle.

CANTON, CT — If you happen to see a giant, motorized boot traveling to Canton this weekend, you haven't accidentally partaken in a recently legalized commodity in Connecticut.

Rather, it's just the quirky vehicle behind national outdoor retailer L.L. Bean, which is opening a temporary, pop-up store at The Shops at Farmington Valley, 110 Albany Turnpike (Route 44), Canton.

Touring major East Coast shopping destinations, the L.L. Bean "Bootmobile," which tows a trailer serving as the store, is a quirky tribute to the outdoor spirit seen at L.L. Bean.

Not only is the store transported via a giant, mechanized boot, but it's also completely powered inside by solar power on the outside.

It will be open at the major outdoor shopping destination from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 16-17.

"L.L.Bean's purpose is to inspire and enable people to experience the restorative benefits of being outside," wrote L.L. Bean in an announcement.

"The Pop-Up Shop will, therefore, have an extensive assortment along with some of our favorites to help the community of Canton enjoy the outside this fall and winter. This includes classics like our Bean Boots and Wicked Good Slippers, as well as some fantastic fleece, flannel, and outerwear options."

And if you're curious as to how big your foot would have to be to properly fit the "Bootmobile," well, you would have to be more Jolly Green Giant than Cinderella.

That's because L.L. Bean says the "Bootmobile," if a real boot, would be a size 700, too big, even, for the Statue of Liberty.
