Update 3:53 p.m.
Connecticut Light and Power is now reporting that 100 percent of its Canton customers have power. A tree branch downed a line on Route 179, causing a portion of the system to shut down as it's supposed to when there is a problem, said Mitch Gross, a spokesman with Connecticut Light and Power.
Approximately 678 or 13 percent of the utility's 4,944 customers in town were without power. The outages were reported just a few minutes before 2 p.m. and 98 percent were in Collinsville.
Power was restored in a little over an hour, Gross added.
