Popular Canton Mini Golf Course Named Tops In CT

The national Golf.com website picked the Route 44 Canton miniature golf course as part of its annual state rankings Thursday.

CANTON, CT — With temperatures as teeth-chattering as they are, miniature golf seems like a faraway possibility in Connecticut these days.

But when the weather warms and becomes more palatable, folks might want to journey to Canton's "Matterhorn Mini Golf," which is located on Route 44 in Canton.

That's because the national Golf.com website Thursday ranked Matterhorn as the best miniature golf course in the state, part of its annual rankings where the top course in each state is named.

The theme of this golf course is Switzerland and, on this topic, Golf.com wasn't neutral in describing where Matterhorn stands on the state's miniature golf scene.

"A celebration of all things Swiss, this engaging course has a hole that smells like Toblerone chocolate and another that nods to tennis icon Roger Federer," wrote Golf.com on Thursday.
"There’s also a replica of the Matterhorn, natch. Don’t be surprised if a staff member bids you a fond ‘auf wiedershen’ as you depart."

The news Thursday drew excitement from the golf course, which immediately posted links to the rating on social media.

This designation isn't Matterhorn's only or first award, as it has also earned "Best Of" honors with the Valley Press, Yankee Magazine, Connecticut Magazine and USA Today, according to its website.
