Region's Health Department Urges Safety From Heat Wave

The department serves Canton, Avon, Farmington, Simsbury, East Granby, Barkhamsted, Colebrook, Granby, Hartland, and New Hartford.

CANTON, CT — A regional health department serving several Farmington Valley towns issued an alert over the weekend urging residents to be safe during 2025's first major heat wave.

A multi-day heat wave was expected through Wednesday, June 25, with temperatures well into the 90s, approaching 100, and a heat index of 100–105 degrees Monday through Wednesday.

The Canton-based Farmington Valley Health District urged folks to be cautious during this time period to be safe from the heat.

The FVHD serves the towns of Canton, Avon, Farmington, Simsbury, East Granby, Barkhamsted, Colebrook, Granby, Hartland, and New Hartford.

Among the heat safety tips folks should practice, according to the FVHD, are:

• Stay hydrated and carry water with you.

• Plan activities in cool places and avoid going out during the hottest parts of the day

• Wear light clothing.

• Check in with your at-risk community members, such as the elderly, pregnant persons, and children.

• Check with your town or call 2-1-1 for cooling center locations.
