State Road Closed In Canton: DOT

CANTON, CT — A state roadway in Canton is closed for a report of utility wires down in the roadway.

According to the state Department of Transportation, Route 309 is closed in Canton between Route 179 and Andrew Drive because of wires down in the roadway.

The situation was first reported at 1:33 p.m. and it is "unknown" when it will be cleared and the road reopened.

While the cause of the situation wasn't clear, a serious weather front rolled into the state around mid-day, bringing with it high winds, heavy rain and thunder.
