Town Meeting To Decide Future Of Old Canton Firehouse
Originally slated for demolition, the firehouse's future is the subject of a town meeting on Thursday, June 27.
CANTON, CT — After officials initially committed to taking down the old Collinsville Fire Station in Canton, voters this week will give their leaders input on what they should do with it.
A special town meeting will take place at Canton High School, 76 Simonds Ave., Canton, at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 27, in the school auditorium.
There, voters will decide a question asking if the Town of Canton should "seek funding to complete a feasibility study and cost estimate for repurposing the existing Collinsville Fire Station, located at 51 River Road, as a storage facility."

Last April, the Canton Board of Selectmen initially nixed a Canton Board of Education request to repurpose the old firehouse for school system storage.
The board didn't vote on the project but decided by consensus to squash the idea.
In recent weeks, however, it has been decided to bring the issue to the townspeople to weigh in.
