CANTON, CT — While you’re checking off holiday gifts for family members, don’t forget the kids who aren’t on anyone’s shopping list and pick up some items for toy drives in Canton.

Here’s what you need to know in Canton:

Canton CERT / Police / Gifts for Canton Drive

  • Date and Time: Saturday, Dec. 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Drop-off Locations:
    • Shops at Farmington Valley (110 Albany Turnpike)
    • Ocean State Job Lot (133 River Road)
  • Donations needed: New toys for children 12 and under, retail gift cards for those 13 and over, cash, and checks (payable to "The Town of Canton," memo: "Gifts for Canton").
  • How to donate: Drop off items at the event locations or mail/drop off checks at Canton Senior and Social Services (40 Dyer Ave.).

Ethan Allen Design Center (Toys for Tots):

  • Location: 135 Albany Turnpike (Rt 44)
  • Hours: Monday - Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.; Sunday, 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Donations: New, unwrapped toys

One of the most well-known toy drives is the Toys for Tots campaign, led by the Marine Corps Reserves.

Since 1947, Toys for Tots drives across the country have collected 708 million toys that were distributed to 314 million children.

Besides dropping off new, unwrapped toys at several drop-off locations, people who want to support the campaign can also donate online.
