In the midst of the busy holiday season, Yoga Center of Collinsville is hosting a Sunday evening Meditation Gong Concert with The Conduit Center.
"The gongs provide vibrational energy that really calms and relaxes people's bodies, enabling them to relax their minds," said YCC workshop coordinator Terry Wolfisch Cole.
In addition to the business of the holidays, YCC owner Shawn Cole said people often suffer from "Monkey Mind," constantly thinking of things, whether it be their last argument with a spouse, the undone portion of their to-do list or a myriad of other possibilities.
The soothing sounds and vibration of the gongs really helps calm that, he said.
"The vibration becomes the focal point in the mind," he said.
The concert will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. For 75 minutes of that time, participants will get "get comfortable with a blanket and pillow, while the deep vibrations of the singing bowls, gongs, & bells, provide a sonic mind-body massage."
The event was originally set to take place at the business but response was so good that it's been moved to the Canton Town Hall Auditorium, 4 Market St., Collinsville.
"The event proved so popular, we outgrew our space," Wolfisch Cole said.
Cost is $29 and even with a venue change space is very limited. Register at http://bit.ly/19Qiwj3
Wolfisch Cole said that anyone can attend and should not worry if they don't practice yoga or meditation. Those who have a pillow, blanket and mat are encouraged to bring them but the center will have extras for people that need them. A few reclining zero-gravity chairs are also available upon request.
Francesca's Wine Bar and Bistro will also stay open later but reservations are recommended. Check availability at (860) 352-8157
