Chapman School Has a New Principal

A face familiar to the Cheshire school district will be taking over the reins at Chapman School next year.

Highland School Assistant Principal Marlene Silano will be packing up and moving to Chapman School this fall, where she will take over for Russell M. Hinckley.

Hinckley also will be moving, to Dolittle Elementary School, replacing the retiring Sharon Weirsman.

"I'm very excited to get to know the students, parents, teachers and staff at Chapman," Silano said of her new position.

"I have heard so much about their culture and community and I look forward to being part of it," she said.

The Board of Education Thursday approved the appointment unanimously.

"I'm very pleased to make this recommendation to the Board of Education to approve the appointment of Marlene Silano to the position of principal at Chapman," Supt. of Schools Greg Florio said.

"Marlene has served very successfully as assistant principal at Highland," Florio said. "I've heard from more than one person at Highland that they don't want her to go."

A group of representatives of the Chapman community met with him as he was making the decision, Florio said, and "all agreed [Silano] would be an excellent choice.

"It's an excellent move for the school system and for the Chapman school community," Florio said.
