Teen, 14, Charged In Theft Of Vehicle, Attempted Car Burglaries In North Haven: Police
A 14-year-old was found hiding under a deck after a stolen vehicle crashed into a mailbox and was abandoned, according to police.
NORTH HAVEN, CT — A 14-year-old New Haven resident was arrested Saturday in connection with the theft of a vehicle and the attempted burglaries of several vehicles in North Haven, according to police.
Police responded to the 1300 block of Ridge Road around 4 p.m. on Dec. 27 on the report of several people trying to enter parked vehicles.
The suspects reportedly fled the area after being confronted by a homeowner, according to police.

Police said a silver sedan was also reported to be associated with the suspects.
“While officers were checking the area, a separate call was received regarding a silver sedan that had struck a mailbox and was left unoccupied,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “Officers established a perimeter and initiated a K-9 track. During the investigation, officers determined the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Town of Seymour.

“With the assistance of neighborhood residents and the negotiating skills of K-9 Cyrus, an individual who was hiding under a deck was located and safely taken into custody.”
The suspect was identified as a 14-year-old New Haven resident, according to police.
Police said the teen was taken to police headquarters, processed, and issued a juvenile summons for multiple charges, including theft of a motor vehicle and interfering with an officer.
“Criminals don't slow down during the holidays, and neither will we,” police wrote. “While this individual is only 14, their behavior is criminal and we will continue to pursue those who engage in criminal activity in our community, regardless of age, and hold them accountable under the law.”
North Haven First Selectman Michael Freda commended the work of police in the comments under the post.
“These criminals who CONTINUE to think they can get away with their nefarious activities in North Haven will CONTINUE to be tracked down, arrested and face consequences,” Freda wrote. “Our efforts will CONTINUE to be intensely focused on stamping out crime here in North Haven.”
