Cheshire Academy Holds 218th Convocation

Classes begin today for more than 350 students at the private academy.

Students clad in navy blue blazers joined a processional Wednesday morning from Cheshire Academy to St. Bridget Church on Main Street to signal the official start of their school year.

The traditional walk is led by a Scottish bagpiper who guides students, faculty and staff from the school to a place of worship. A convocation follows which includes musical performances, a welcome by Headmaster Doug Rogers and speakers from the Upper and Lower Schools. This year's students speakers were Senior Class President Riane Sullivan and Middle School student Benjamin Buchmeier.

The bell in the historic Bowden Hall is rung during the convocation; this year it pealed 218 times, once for each year since the school was founded.
