Cheshire Resident Earns Postseason Honors At College
The Cheshire High School graduate has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year.
CHESHIRE, CT — Cheshire’s Karla Carangelo, a freshman on the Albertus Magnus College women’s softball team, was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Year.
She was also named to the All-GNAC second team, along with teammates Annabelle Jabs, of East Hartland, and Skylar Arent, of Ridgefield, as the major award winners and all-conference teams were announced.
East Haven’s Ema Signore was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.

Carangelo, a Cheshire High School graduate, had a breakout first year as a Falcon with a .405/.480/.618 slash line. She had 53 hits, including 14 doubles, four triples and two home runs while driving in 31 runs and scoring 30.
Carangelo ranked third in the GNAC in doubles, fifth in hits, fourth in total bases (81), seventh in slugging percentage and 10th in batting average. She became the second player in program history to take home the GNAC Rookie of the Year award. Gillian Fortier won the award in 2019.

Carangelo had 16 multi-hit games on the season and eight games where she drove in two or more runs and eight games where she scored two runs. In a 13-2 win over Mass.-Maritime on March 23, Carangelo went 3-for-3 with a double three RBI and a run scored. In a 10-4 win over the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on March 30, she went 2-for-3 with a triple three RBIs and two runs. She also had a hit in each of the four GNAC tournament games (5-for-13), with a double two RBIs and four runs.
Jabs and Arent represented both pitching spots on the All-GNAC second team.
