Cheshire Wins State Championship in Thriller
The Cheshire boys lacrosse claimed its second straight championship with a thrilling win over St. Joseph.
CHESHIRE, CT — The Cheshire boys lacrosse team won its second straight state championship with a thrilling 13-12 win over St. Joseph in the Class L final Saturday at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.
Matt Jeffery scored three goals in the fourth quarter, including the game-winner, to lead the Rams.
Jeffery and Sean Gevelding finished with four goals apiece, while Adam Vernon had three goals, and Ryan Grove and Grant Paul each added a goal apiece for Cheshire.

Joe Grenier made nine saves in goal for the Rams.
Cheshire outscored its opponents 73-27 en route to the championship.

The top-seeded Rams opened with a 26-4 victory over 17th-seeded East Catholic 26-4 in the second round, then beat No. 9 Fairfield Warde 18-5 in the quarterfinals, and defeated fifth-seeded Simsbury 16-6 in the semifinals before edging second-seeded St. Joseph in the final.
