Cheshire Woman, 29, Battles ALS; Family Asks Lawmakers For Help

The family is raising awareness and pleading with lawmakers for help with battling ALS

CHESHIRE, CT — The family of a 29-year-old Cheshire woman battling ALS is pleading with lawmakers for help, WTNH News 8 reported.

WTNH News 8 reports Alex Gasser, described as a vibrant young lawyer, was diagnosed with ALS in 2020 after she first noticed sudden slurred speech in 2019. Gasser’s condition has rapidly deteriorated within the past year to the point that she now uses a walker and has trouble talking and eating.

Her mother, Lorri Cavaliere, is calling on federal lawmakers, including Connecticut’s U.S. Senators Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal to approve a bill – S. 1813 – asking for help including research grants and expanded access, allowing some ALS patients to use drugs in Phase 3 clinical trials, according to WTNH News 8.
