Cyclists and Walkers Better Protected on South Brooksvale Road
The Rails to Trails crossing on South Brooksvale Road is now safer with "traffic calming" changes to the road.
The town's most popular park is long and thin; the attracts by far the most users than any other public park in Cheshire.
Given that popularity, high speed and heavy traffic on hilly and curvy South Brooksvale Road was a concern for the town.
An inexpensive solution is now being tested. "Traffic calming" lines have been painted on both sides of the pedestrian crossing to alert drivers of the upcoming slow zone.

The lines start well up the hill to the east of the trail crossing where vehicles tend to speed. During a visit to the site on Sunday, a reporrter noticed most cars slowed down significantly before the crossing.
That's exactly the results the Cheshire Police Department expects, according to Town Manager Michael Milone. He told the Town Council recently that stripes, or hashmarks, were painted from the curb into the roadway up to 12 feet. He said the visual affect of the painted lines makes drivers think the road is narrowing and they tend to slow down near the linear park's crossing.
