Man Stole Checks, Defrauded Cheshire Business, Police Say

A man was extradited from Georgia to face fraud charges in Connecticut, according to police.

CHESHIRE, CT — A Georgia man was charged in a case that defrauded a Cheshire business, according to police.

Police received a complaint May 24 regarding outgoing checks that were stolen, "washed," and changed to reflect a new recipient and amount.

An investigation tied the fraud to a Georgia business called Dedicated-Grind Clothing, LLC, and to Demetrius Jones, of LaGrange, Georgia, police said.

Police in Georgia took Jones in to custody Nov. 17, and he was held on a fugitive from justice warrant. Cheshire police took custody of Jones Nov. 25 and extradited him to Connecticut.

He was charged with first-degree forgery and first-degree larceny. Jones posted bond and was scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Dec. 10.
