New Use Proposed For Former Beloved Family Farm Site In Cheshire: Report
The family-run farm closed after nearly 270 years in business.
CHESHIRE, CT — A 25-lot residential subdivision is being proposed to be built on the former Norton Brothers Fruit Farm site in Cheshire, according to the Hartford Business Journal.
The beloved family farm closed earlier this year after nearly 270 years in business. Norton Brothers Fruit Farm had featured a produce market, pick-your-own apples, pears, peaches, nectarines, blueberries and raspberries, along with hayrides and Christmas trees.
The Hartford Business Journal reports the proposal for “Farm Meadow Preserve” calls for 25 single-family homes to be built on the property.

An application for a permit has been submitted to the Cheshire Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission for “regulated activities” associated with the project, according to the Hartford Business Journal.
The farm, located at 466 Academy Road in Cheshire, had been run since 1757 by seven generations of the Norton and Perry family, according to the New Haven Register.
