Citizen's Guide to the Budget

Officials at town hall created a first-ever "Citizen's Guide" to the proposed 2013/2014 budget. The budget referendum vote is Wed., May 8 from 6am to 8pm at town hall.

Editor's note: some users cannot download the full, six-page .pdf file off this site. If you want a copy of it, please email me at fay.abrahamsson@patch.com and I'll email it to you.  Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.

Town officials recently created and mailed a "Citizen's Guide to the Budget" brochure to Clinton households.

In case you didn't receive one, here it is attached to this article in a .pdf form.

As the creators of the guide pointed out, this is the "inaugural" issue as it is "important that we communicate" with residents over the status of the proposed 2013-2014 budget.

The guide covers lots of territory including:

  • A message from Town Hall
  • Understanding the Budget
  • The Budget Process - where it goes and where it comes from
  • The Mill Rate
  • The Grand List
  • Capital Improvements and Equipment
  • The terms used in a town budget vs. a household budget
