First Annual Regional 'Cupcake Wars' at Morgan
It was fondant vs. toasted coconut in the 1st Annual war of the cupcakes hosted by The Morgan School.
It was “Cupcake Wars” in Clinton May 10 as four teams competed for the top honors in who can be the best in the fashionable world of decorated cupcakes.
The teams represented students from four towns: Clinton, Haddam-Killingworth, Madison and Milford.
The first-ever event was created and coordinated by the Family and Consumer Science teachers at The Morgan School and Haddam-Killingworth High School who are Joanne Nunan and Joanna Siciliano, respectively.
Student bakers included Briana Norman and Olivia Savva from The Morgan School; Allie Buys from Haddam-Killingworth High School; Nicole Pandolfini and Bailey Mulqueen from Daniel Hand High School, Madison; and Alyssa Ticknor, Aryn Moncrease, Rachel Brown and Emily Rainey from The Academy in Milford.
Cupcakes were judged on creativity and originality, decorating technique and degree of difficulty, among other items. The teams were also judged on their presentation to a panel of judges, their confidence and delivery, and the neatness of their kitchens.
Judges included Emma Borson, Deb Ramsey, Anita Rutlin, and Lisa Carberg and Ryan Hanrahan from NBC Connecticut News, and Erika Martin and Chris Velardi of WTNH News 8.
Design themes represented included spring flowers, Alice in Wonderland, tropical delights, and other creative designs.
After the four teams presented their finished creations to the panel of judges, the judges conferred in private and the winner was announced!
