CLINTON, CT — An 81-year-old woman died during a canoeing accident Saturday morning while in the Hammonasset River, according to media reports.

At 11:15 a.m. emergency crews from Madison, Clinton and the state of Connecticut came to the scene for an overturned canoe and a woman in the water, Fox 61 reported.

The investigation revealed that three people were in a canoe, and they were part of a state park led guided canoe program, WTNH News 8 and Fox 61 reported.

The woman was wearing a life jacket, and the other two people on board were not injured.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
