Danbury Daily Bread Food Pantry Thanksgiving Giveaway A 'Huge Success'

More than 50 volunteers staffed the farmer's market style outdoor event and welcomed about 950 families in need, a new record.

DANBURY, CT — Organizers of the Thanksgiving food distribution last week at Danbury's Daily Bread Food Pantry are calling the annual event "a great success."

More than 50 volunteers staffed the farmer’s market style outdoor event and welcomed about 950 families in need, a record for the40-old agency. Each family received about 50 pounds of food including a frozen turkey or chickens, fresh apples, sweet potatoes, onions, carrots, jalapeño peppers, cabbages, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, farm fresh pies, and other baked items. Santa and one of his elves welcomed visitors, and the pantry’s youngest guests received a small stuffed turkey toy and a book.

Every week Daily Bread, the largest pantry in the area, distributes about 30,000 pounds of healthy food to about 2,500 – 3,000 hungry people. Early in 2025, the agency will open its "super pantry" at 125 Park Avenue. The expanded operation will offer guests a respectful, independent shopping experience, a wider selection of nutritious food, extensive open hours, and access to wraparound services.
