Danbury Local Hero: Chef Cooking Hot Meals For Hospital Workers

COVID-19 shut his restaurant down, but Andres Madina has kept his oven lit for the healthcare workers at Danbury Hospital.

DANBURY, CT — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented times. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these everyday heroes.

Restaurants have been hit hard during the virus crisis. Sure, many of them are still providing takeout and curbside pickup, but even those efforts are barely enough to keep the ovens hot. But while many restaurateurs have been wringing their hands, Andres Madina, owner and chef at Pappadella's in Danbury, has been working his asparagus off providing hot meals to the health care staff at Danbury Hospital.

In making the nomination, Pappadella's customer Julio Lopez, Sr. described Madina as "an honest and selfless individual who really cares for the well-being of the community."
