Danbury Man Faces Multiple Motor Vehicle Charges After Police Pursuit

Police say a Danbury man faces several charges after a high-speed pursuit.

DANBURY, CT — A 20-year-old Danbury man faces multiple motor vehicle and public safety charges following a Wilton police investigation into a series of high-speed pursuits involving a 2011 Acura TL.

Police said contact was made with Justin Taveras, of James Street in Danbury, on Oct. 30 after a lengthy investigation into incidents in which a silver Acura TL fled from officers at high speeds on Danbury Road. According to police, Taveras twice drove more than 100 mph to evade officers, used a registration plate that did not belong to the vehicle, and later operated the car without any registration.

During one pursuit, officers deployed spike strips to stop the vehicle. Police said Taveras drove toward an officer attempting to set up a second set of strips, forcing the officer to dive off the roadway for safety.

He was released on a promise to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Nov. 13.
