Danbury Man Indicted In Cocaine Trafficking Case Tied To U.S. Mail

Federal officials say a Danbury man is facing charges in a drug conspiracy involving more than 11 kilos of cocaine shipped from Puerto Rico

DANBURY, CT — A federal grand jury has indicted a Danbury man on multiple drug trafficking charges connected to a conspiracy involving the shipment of cocaine from Puerto Rico to Connecticut through the U.S. Mail.

Roman Santiago Jr., 41, was indicted in U.S. District Court in Hartford on charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine, and possession with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and 40 grams or more of fentanyl. The charges each carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum of life in prison.

According to federal court documents and statements made during proceedings, between September 2024 and February 2025, Santiago participated in a scheme that involved the mailing of drug packages from Puerto Rico to various addresses in Connecticut. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service intercepted several packages during the investigation, each containing approximately two kilograms of cocaine, totaling more than 11 kilograms.

Santiago was taken into custody on a federal criminal complaint on Feb. 12, 2025, and later released on a $50,000 bond.

The investigation is being led by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Narcotics and Bulk Cash Trafficking Task Force, with assistance from the Danbury and Plainville Police Departments.

Officials noted that the charges are part of Operation Take Back America, a national initiative targeting transnational criminal organizations and drug trafficking.

Santiago is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
