Danbury Police Warn Of Phone Scam Involving Fake Officer Calls
Danbury police alert public to phone scam involving fake officer claiming warrant; urge residents not to share payment or banking info.
DANBURY, CT — The Danbury Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam involving someone falsely claiming to be a police officer.
According to a statement released by the department, the scammer calls individuals and claims there is an outstanding warrant in their name, then requests payment. The caller may ask for banking information, wire transfers, or payment through gift cards.
Police emphasized that the department does not collect payments by phone and will never ask for personal financial information in this manner.

“If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately,” officials said. “Do not share any personal or banking information.”
Anyone who believes they have been targeted or has information related to the scam is encouraged to contact the Danbury Police Department’s non-emergency line at 203-797-4611. An investigation is ongoing.
