Danbury Police Warn Residents About Impersonation Phone Scam

Danbury police are investigating a phone scam involving someone impersonating an officer and demanding money.

DANBURY, CT —The Danbury Police Department is alerting residents about a phone scam involving a caller falsely claiming to be a police officer and requesting money.

According to a statement posted on social media, the caller identifies themselves as a member of the Danbury Police Department and demands payment, sometimes requesting banking details, gift cards or wire transfers.

Officials stressed that the department will never ask for money or sensitive personal information over the phone.

“We take these incidents very seriously and are actively investigating,” the department said. “If you believe you've been targeted or have any information, please report it.”

Residents who receive such a call are advised to hang up immediately and contact the department’s non-emergency line at 203-797-4611.
