Danbury Receives $600,000 In 2 Major Grants
City officials explained how the funds will be used in Danbury.
DANBURY, CT — Mayor Roberto Alves announced two major grants have been awarded to the City of Danbury, totaling $600,000.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded Danbury $400,0000 for a Safe Streets for All Action Plan Grant, and the State Department of Economic and Community Development has awarded $200,000 to perform a Brownfield remediation assessment.
Planning and Demonstration Grants, like the Safe Streets for All Action Plan Grant help communities like Danbury develop road safety action plans and inform improvements along corridors, officials said in a news release. They also provide funding to implement “quick build” strategies to test safety features such as separated bicycle lanes or curb extensions at intersections.

State Municipal Grant Programs, like the one awarded by the Department of Economic and Community Development’s (DECD) Office of Brownfield Remediation and Development (OBRD), allow municipalities to perform thorough assessments of properties, supporting future use and development of such areas.
“These much-needed grant funds will kickstart projects that will benefit our entire community. Safer roads for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and more will have a major impact not just on our quality of life, but also on our economic and environmental landscape, fostering growth and safety in Danbury for years to come,” said Alves in a prepared statement. “The $200,000 the city has been awarded to assess a Brownfield property will help pave the way for revitalizing our city’s unused spaces, unlocking potential for sustainable development and community enrichment.” Concluded Mayor Alves.
