Danbury Youth Jobs Program Cut From State Budget: Report
A city official says the loss of the program is a big blow to families who count on the jobs.

DANBURY, CT — 38 city youths will have to find new work after a state jobs program was cut from the budget, reports the News Times. The Connecticut Youth Employment Program got the axe from the dwindling state budget, which was supposed to help youths earn a summer income by working minimum-wage jobs during summer break.
Joseph Dobbins of the Danbury Youth Services said he was heartbroken to have to call families and break the bad news. He also said the program provides money to buy new school clothes or to save for college, on top of providing work experience.
Dobbins also told the publication the DYS is trying to arrange for an alternative, but not replicate all of the program's benefits.
