Drunk Danbury Driver Arrested in Wilton

An alert driver in Wilton flagged down a nearby police cruiser to alert the officer of the potentially intoxicated motorist, a Danbury man.

WILTON, CT — A Danbury man was arrested after a concerned driver flagged down a police cruiser to to alert the officer that another car was driving erratically, police said. Officer Mark Canepari was patrolling Danbury Road near the Ridgefield Road intersection around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 18 when he noticed a driver trying to get his attention.

The motorist pointed Canepari in the direction of a Ford Ranger pickup truck who he said was either drinking and driving or texting and driving. Canepari saw the truck swerve from the right northbound lane into the left lane nearly striking another vehicle, and pulled him over.

Julio Guaman, 44, of Danbury, displayed signs of intoxication and failed a field sobriety test, police said. Guaman was charged with driving under the influence,failure to drive right, insufficient insurance and driving with a suspended driver’s license. His bail was set at $260, and appeared in court on Aug. 29.

Court records show the judge is awaiting his plea and he is next scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Sept. 9, 2016.
