DANBURY, CT — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented times. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these everyday heroes.

Barbara Allen in Newtown nominated Danbury Hospital nurse Sonyta Thai as a Patch Local Hero.

Thai is a first year RN who has been working tirelessly with COVID-19 patients, Allen, her former teacher at Danbury High School, told Patch.

"Her compassion and passion for her patients during this difficult time is boundless," Allen said. "From the time Sonyta was young she wanted to go into medicine to make the world a better place. She is doing that every day at this unprecedented moment in history."

According to Allen, Thai had to work "tirelessly" to overcome "tremendous adversity" in order to achieve her dream career. Now she is bringing that same indefatigable energy to bear on the front lines of the Virus War to ease the suffering of COVID-19 patients.
