Based on the 2006 novel by Kate DiCamillo, the play traces the journey of Edward Tulane, a three-foot-tall china rabbit. Edward is loved by a little girl named Abilene, but he doesn’t care because he’s vain and self-centered. But when Edward is thrown overboard during an ocean voyage he sinks to the bottom of the sea – and his real journey begins. As a toy, Edward has little control over what happens but learns what it is to love, what it is to lose that love and how to find the courage to love again.

A preview performance will be held Thursday, November 30th at 7pm and two dinner theater performances will be held December 1 and 2 at 6pm at Immaculate High School, 73 Southern Boulevard in Danbury. The show is produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Illinois. Tickets can be purchased online here.

The Friday and Saturday night dinner theater includes a buffet-style meal (pasta, meatballs, chicken, salad, etc.) prior to the performance. Coffee and dessert will also be provided to enjoy during the show.

Students performing in the show are: Madison Graham-Thomas of Bethel; Adrianna Biros, Lila Giacopelli and Michael Volpe of Brewster; Spencer O’Rourke of Brookfield; Kayleigh Dickinson, Michael Jimenez and Abigail Ransley of Danbury; Veronika Bachleda of Mahopac; Allison Marsh, Julia Skrzpczyk and Marcella Williams of New Milford; Adrianna Biros, Cosette Timmel of Patterson; Joseph LeFebvre and Gabrielle Martin of Ridgefield; Maria Tapanes of Southbury; and Max Fleming of Wilton.

Performance note: While this show is geared towards younger audiences, please be aware that it may not be appropriate for some children. Edward’s story is about grief, loss, pain and cruelty. It is also about love, sacrifice and faith – plus having the courage to love again once your heart has been broken.
