Obituary: Florence L. Jednack, 97, of Danbury

Florence was a woman of strong character, so naturally prepared to give to others.

Florence L. Jednack passed peacefully from this earth on June 27, 2017 at age 97. She will be forever appreciated for her selfless acts of kindness “when no one was looking” to so many in her native Danbury, CT. She leaves her loving sister, Jennie Batory Valeri, godson and nephew, Paul Valeri, his wife, Denise and their sons, Mark and Adam, their daughter, Abby Schwab from Denver, nephew Tom Valeri and niece Susan Valeri, all from Danbury, plus niece Peggy Molinaro and her husband, Peter from Oakton, VA and their daughters, Katie and Virginia, nephews, Reggie Zurinskas from Simsbury, Bobby Jednack of Toms River, Dr. Kenneth Kowalski from Burlington, Dr. Chester Kowalski from Middle Haddam and niece Dr. Cathy Kowalski from Manchester. She was predeceased by the love of her life, husband Stanley Jednack. Florence’s genes of kindness and selflessness so flowed from her mother, Lena, who emigrated from Poland through Ellis Island as a young girl. Like Mama Batory, Florence, born November 8, 1919 was a dependable source of kindness, always ready to give herself to others.

Proudly part of the Greatest Generation, prior to the war years, Florence and her husband, Stan owned and operated a diner in Newtown. At the start of WWII, Florence was chosen to be part of the team that perfected the critical ingredient that went into the making of the famous Norden Bombsight, high precision ball bearings. At that time, Barden Corporation was located on East Franklin Street in Downtown Danbury. Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, production of the bombsights increased from 800 to 2000 per month. It played a critical part in preserving victory for the Allies is WWII. Florence rose all the way from being a highly respected technician at Barden’s; retiring after 49 years as its Head of Quality Control.

Florence was a woman of strong character, so naturally prepared to give to others. The unabiding love and care she provided the Valeri family knew no boundaries. The Valeris hold tight our memories of pleasant family vacations with our dear Aunt Florence at Cape Cod, Nantucket and the Coast of Maine.
