Obituary: Richard Thomas Richter, 85, Of Danbury

Richard served his country for six years as a member of the United States Coast Guard, and later worked as a tool and die maker.

DANBURY, CT —Richard Thomas Richter, age 85, of Danbury, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, due to heart failure. Richard was born in Stamford on March 17, 1939.

Richard is predeceased by his brother, Robert Richter, his brother, Daniel Richter and his sister, Ruth Snodgrass.

Richard will be deeply missed by his devoted spouse of 54 years, Madeleine Loiseau Richter, his daughter, Karolyn Richter, his son, Jess Richter, and daughter-in-law, Kendra Edson. h is also mourned by his sister, Barbara Stamatelos, and brother-in-law, Constantine, as well as sister-in-law, Kathleen Richter (wife of his late brother Daniel) and many beloved nieces and nephews.

After graduating from JM Wright Technical High in 1958, he proudly served his country for six years as a member of the United States Coast Guard, which complemented his lifelong love of the sea. He was a hardworking man who would go on to support his family as a tool and die maker until his retirement in 2009.

Together with his family, Richard created lasting memories during summer vacations visiting his wife’s large extended family in Quebec and exploring Montreal and the surrounding areas. In recent years, Richard took great joy in spending time with Madeleine visiting their daughter in New York City, as well as traveling to Southern California and Newport, RI to spend time with his son, daughter-in-law, and their friends who collectively cherished him.

Richard’s gentle nature endeared him to others. His quick wit and sometimes quirky jokes brought laughter to those around him. An avid reader, he immersed himself in action-packed suspense thrillers, as well as historical fiction and non-fiction works. His literary taste lives on through a collection of well-worn books.

Visitation for Richard will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, CT 06810. Words of Remembrance will follow at 12:30 p.m. concluding with a funeral service at 1:00 p.m.
