Portuguese Army Veteran, Band Conductor, Joao dos Santos Silva, 75, of Danbury, Passed Away
Mr. Silva immigrated with his family to the United States in 1986 was employed with Technipower, LLC of Danbury.
DANBURY, CT — Joao dos Santos Silva, 75, of Danbury, husband of Ana Melo Silva, passed away at his home on Friday evening, August 26, 2016. Mr. Silva was born in Mosteiros, Sao Miguel, Portugal on October 21, 1940, a son of the late Jose Silva Dias and Henriqueta Botelho Sousa. He served in the Portuguese Army for 26 years and was a member of the military band. He was also a band conductor, director and music teacher.
Joao was united in marriage to Ana Melo on January 17, 1965 in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Portugal.
He immigrated with his family to the United States in 1986 and has been a Danbury resident since 1988.
Mr. Silva was employed with Technipower, LLC of Danbury and was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish.
In addition to his wife of fifty one years, Mr. Silva is survived by five sons and their spouses, Rui and Margarida Silva of Porto, Portugal, John and Grace Silva of Rocky Hill, CT, Eduardo and Isabel Silva of Danbury, CT,, Ricardo and Greta Silva of Griswold, CT and Fernando and Natalie Silva of McDonough, GA.

He is also survived by 13 Grandchildren: Nuno, John, Alex, Ines, Alyssa, Ana Margarida, Catarina, Alexandria, Nicholas, Marissa, Tyler, Sean and Austin; a brother, Jose da Silva Dias and by a sister, Serafina Pereira. In addition to his parents, Mr. Silva was predeceased by his sister Isabel Cabral.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 10:30 AM in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 149 Deer Hill Ave., Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
