DANBURY, CT — The city is experiencing a spike in influenza cases, mirroring the increase statewide.
The Connecticut Department of Public Health is reporting the state has had 12,000 positive cases of the flu since Dec. 1. In the same period of time, Danbury has confirmed 181 lab cases of the sickness, according to city spokesperson Erin Henry.
Common flu symptoms include fever/chills, cough, sore throat, congestion, muscle aches, and fatigue. Health officials are urging those who are symptomatic to stay home, disinfect surfaces, wash hands regularly, and wear a mask around others. Vaccination continues to be the primary prevention measure against influenza and COVID-19, according to officials.

Residents can receive the flu vaccine from their health care provider, a retail pharmacy, the Danbury Health Department (203-797-4625), or online. COVID-19 at-home test kits are also available at the Danbury Health Department.
The city's Department of Health & Human Services requests that people do not report to the Emergency Department for routine flu testing, and leave that venue clear for critical care. For all routine testing, residents should contact a primary care physician.
