What Road in Danbury Needs a Speed Bump?

DANBURY, CT - Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Danbury. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

If you’re frustrated with speeders in a certain part of Danbury, you are in good company. We reached out to readers on Facebook, asking which local road they thought needed a speed bump. Here’s what your neighbors told us:

• "On Rowen St. Too many people speed and when a basketball rolls in to the street, they don't stop."
• "Speed bumps - bah humbug! I just moved here and I am shocked at how poor the lighting and road markings are around the mall. Park Ave., Segar St., West Wooster - it's freakin' scary to drive around here. These are major roads - there is no excuse for it to be this dangerous."
