UPDATE: Driver in West Ave Entrance Ramp Accident Goes to Police

A man went to Norwalk police to tell them he an was the driver of a motor vehicle struck a pedestrian early Wednesday.

Update 4:09 p.m.:

The pedestrian struck early Wednesday morning by a motor vehicle at the on-ramp to Rt. 7 and Interstate 95 has been identified as Robert Hartman, 55, of Norwalk, who remains in serious condition at Norwalk Hospital, police said.

The driver of the vehicle went to Norwalk Police Headquarters on Wednesday afternoon and spoke with investigators, police said. Investigators have not charged the driver at this time, police said, although the vehicle has been taken into custody.

Update 10:17 a.m.:

A 55-year-old man was struck by a motor vehicle at the West Avenue on-ramp shared by Rt. 7 and Interstate 95 in Norwalk sometime before 5:22 a.m. when police were called, police said.

Police arrived at the scene, where the man was on the roadway, suffering from “serious injuries,” police said in a news release. He was taken by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital.

The vehicle that struck him fled the scene before police arrived, although it is believed to have front-end damage, police said.

A motor vehicle struck a pedestrian on the entrance ramp from West Avenue to U.S. Rt. 7 northbound lanes early Wednesday morning, Norwalk police said.

Injuries to the pedestrian were reported to be serious, police said. The vehicle fled from the scene.

The shared entrance ramp to Rt. 7 and Interstate 95 westbound-traffic lanes was closed for a time as police investigated the scene.

By 8 a.m., according to WFSB-TV, the entrance ramp was reopened.
