DARIEN, CT — Work to widen 23A, the access road to Great Island in Darien, is temporarily paused, according to the most recent newsletter from the town.

The work stoppage will last through Jan. 5 due to the weather and the holiday schedule.

"This means the property will be open for walking for that entire window — including weekdays, when it’s normally closed," the town said. "With the holidays coming up, we hope residents take advantage of the break and enjoy a beautiful winter walk out on Great Island."

There are limited parking spaces available at Pear Tree Point for residents who want to park there and walk over to Great Island.

Beginning Jan. 5, the entire lot will be closed to the public until the Pear Tree Point improvement project is completed, which is expected to occur before the 2026 summer season, according to a recent announcement from Darien Parks & Recreation.
