Cops: Man Stole $8K from Darien Alzheimer's Couple

A Norwalk man turned himself into Darien Police Monday, November 5th, after police issued a warrant for his arrest charging him with allegedly stealing an Alzheimer's patient's credit card and using it to make purchases and withdraws. 

Abraham Kishumbua, 21, of West Cedar Street, stands accused by the family of a Five Mile River Road couple suffering from Alzheimer's Disease of stealing the couple's credit card in June. The couple's card was allegedly used to pay cell phone bills and make ATM withdrawals from October 2011 through May 2012, according to police. 

An investigation revealed the card was used to pay nine Sprint invoices totaling $1,182.84 and had 36 ATM withdrawals totaling $7,020. Kishumbua is the nephew of one of the two caregivers who had been providing support for the couple. Kishumbua's aunt allegedly identified him as the person seen in bank surveillance photos initiating transactions with the couple's card. 

Kishumbua allegedly admitted to investigators that he stole the credit card after gaining access to to the couple's home while visiting his aunt at work.

Kishumbua faces charges of third-degree larceny, fifth-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, theft of a credit card and illegal use of a credit card. He was released on a written Promise To Appear for a November 13th court date.
