Darien Home Previously Owned by Christopher Plummer Has an Accepted Offer for $12.5 Million

The waterfront property has a swimming pool, gym and sauna and a history going back to the 1860s.

The Darien waterfront home formerly owned by actor Christopher Plummer has an ”accepted offer” — in which a sale looks close, but isn’t yet closed — for its asking price of $12.5 million, according to William Pitt Sotheby’s.

Its former ownership by Plummer in the 1970s was previously mentioned in descriptions of the house, including one posted on Zillow.com, but that mention was removed after news reports were published about the house, which is listed by Halstead.

The house, built in 1866 and massively renovated since, is located at 209 Long Neck Point Rd., perhaps the most expensive neighborhood in one of the most expensive towns in the country.

With 7,739 square feet of interior space, the house has six bedrooms and nine bathrooms. It sits on 2.17 acres with more than 200 feet on Long Island Sound waterfront, facing east. Among its 15 rooms are a “recreation room, full gym, full bath/sauna” according to William Pitt Sotheby’s. If the owners don’t want to swim in the Sound, they can use the pool or just take in the view from the patio, balconies or rooms.

Plummer, now 84, became the oldest person to win an Academy Award for a role in 2012. He played the male lead in The Sound of Music, was a villain Klingon in Star Trek VI, and has won a long list of the top acting awards for theater, television and movie performances, including The Insider and Beginners. For many years, he and his wife, the English actress Elaine Taylor, have lived in Weston.
