Darien Small Business Spotlight: The Seana Method

Our small business series shines a light on local business owners in the community.

Every local business has a story worth sharing with the community. And that’s the belief behind this exciting series we’ve kicked off at Patch — to shine the spotlight on all our favorite local businesses, and to learn a little about the ones we may not know that well.

How did you come up with the name?

Seana is my first name. People often don’t know how to pronounce the name (it is pronounced “Shawna”), and it is fairly unique. Using my first name made it simple to get my DBA, secure the name for my website/social media sites, and hopefully has taught a few people how to pronounce it.

Why start a business in this town?

I am a longtime Darien resident, and it was a natural fit to begin the business in the town I love. I have connections here, and felt it would be the perfect place to start spreading the word about my services.

Briefly, what business are you in?

I am a Professional Organizer. This means that I help people to organize the three key elements of life: time, space and belongings. I come alongside clients and work with them on organizing their homes, improving their efficiency and helping them to manage their time. I also have a significant social media presence so I can provide tips and resources for people who don’t have the money to hire a professional.

What’s the most difficult moment or challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?

Starting a business is a lot of work, and sometimes the biggest challenges have had little to do with the actual “work.” Small details, such as securing appropriate insurance, developing contracts, and building/managing a website have all required a significant investment of time.

What’s been your favorite moment or proudest achievement since opening?

Organizing is a service business, so my favorite moments have been when clients were pleased. I’ve had experiences where people have been heavily stressed when I arrived, and by the end of our session, felt decompressed and back in control. Whenever I’ve been able to alleviate pain, I’ve had a good day.

How does your business give back or get involved in the community?

Darien is a special place, so I enjoy giving back whenever I can. I have donated hours of free service to local organizations for use in silent auctions (local nursery school, Middlesex, DHS). I helped facilitate a “Dress For Success” drive to collect gently used clothing for needy people entering the workforce. I also am a frequent speaker to various local groups, including the Darien Library, the local MOPS chapter, and Parent Awareness.
