ID Released Of Person Struck And Killed By Train In Darien

DARIEN, CT — The person who was struck and killed by a Metro-North train in Darien on Aug. 22 has been identified, according to an update from the MTA.

An MTA spokesperson told Patch the deceased was identified as Andrew Ritz, 46, of Bridgeport. His family has been notified.

On Aug. 22 at approximately 6:41 p.m., Metro-North train 1583 was traveling westbound when it struck a person who was "not authorized to be on the tracks" east of the Darien station, according to the MTA.

A preliminary investigation, which included video review, found that no criminality is suspected, the MTA said.

There were no injuries reported to passengers or crew on the train.

Ritz was pronounced dead at the scene. New Haven Line service was delayed an average of 15 minutes between ‌‌Stamford and South Norwalk following the incident.

An investigation is ongoing, the MTA noted.
