Letters: Bayne a Strong Advocate of Pedestrian Safety
Meanwhile, James Palen writes that the Republican ticket has displayed 'personal character, civic dedication, conservative financial strategy, and ability to bring people together.'

Bayne has been a strong advocate of pedestrian safety
To the Editor:
We’re writing to express our gratitude for all the support we’ve received over the past two years from David Bayne during our efforts to encourage the Town of Darien to address pedestrian safety issues, specifically sidewalks along Hoyt Street near the Talmadge Hill train station. As commuters we are personally affected by the lack of pedestrian access to our neighborhood public transit. Many residents of our neighborhood utilize Hoyt Street to walk to work while navigating a road filled with speeding traffic that is still without adequate walkways, signage, and lighting despite two solid years of active pleas to address these safety issues. Not one sign has been added, and not one line has been painted.

David Bayne has remained an advocate, continuing to educate us on how to properly move our issue forward, even when faced with the extreme lack of interest, communication and action that we’ve witnessed from the majority on the current Board of Selectmen. This past weekend, we had the opportunity to meet David’s running mate, John Lundeen. It was refreshing to hear him speak of their team’s commitment to proactive planning and prioritization of public projects in town to ensure that public safety won’t be brushed aside.
We believe that the Darien Working Together team is interested in making our town a more accessible and pedestrian friendly place. Please join us in voting for them.

Darien needs active voters, sound leaders, dedicated public servants
On November 8th we will have the opportunity to exercise our fundamental civic duty of selecting those who will serve the public. In tumultuous times such as these, our responsibility to make an informed decision here in Darien is as important as the one we will make in Washington. Our lives are full of family and career obligations and our commutes may be long, but the responsibility to vote (including by absentee) is paramount.
I will support Jayme Stevenson, Dave Campbell, and Jerry Nielsen. I have had the opportunity to witness their personal character, civic dedication, conservative financial strategy, and ability to bring people together.
I applaud their tireless work and dedication to the development of a new senior center that will utilize the town’s existing resources and produce countless additional benefits for our community. Furthermore, I put my trust in their non-partisan and open approach and their ability to develop solutions for the many issues that will face Darien in the coming years.
Jayme, Dave, and Jerry: thank you for the past two years, for running your campaign in a respectable and open manner, and for not turning serious issues into cartoons.

Lundeen, Bayne, Riccardo are unusually outstanding
The ticket of John Lundeen for first selectman and David Bayne and Vickie Riccardo for selectmen is unusually outstanding.
John’s long experience in both government and private enterprise will provide him with the well-balanced and deep experience to address our key town issues. Equally important, he has the temperament, demeanor, and attitude to resolving issues, which are needed to achieve genuine consensus on solutions. John also has a commitment to open, transparent, and — yes — fair government that is refreshing and different.
David Bayne has completed two terms as Selectman in Darien that have distinguished him as a deeply committed, thoughtful, and productive public servant. His experience both in town government, and as a practicing attorney, provides significant benefit to our town in addressing our significant challenges.
Vickie Riccardo, with her training as an attorney and her experience as a member of the Darien Planning and Zoning Commission, will bring a knowledge of the important land-use and development issues we face that is truly superior.
Electing these excellent candidates will truly benefit our town. I urge you to vote row A — Lundeen, Bayne, and Riccardo — on this coming election day.
