Letters: Bayne Balances Commuting with Public Service
'While I do not always agree with David's policy positions, I do greatly respect his passion and commitment to being a selectmen,' writes Tim McGowan.

Bayne balances commuting with public service
To the Editor:
I have known David Bayne and his family since we moved to Darien 15 years ago. There are two things that I know David deeply believes in. One is his love for Darien. The second is his commitment to town government.

While I do not always agree with David’s policy positions, I do greatly respect his passion and commitment to being a selectmen. As a fellow NYC commuter, I have seen him numerous times get off the train and head straight to Town Hall for a town meeting. I do not know how he does it with such a positive, public service attitude. All I want to do is go home and have dinner with my family and call it a day.
When I read First Selectman candidate Jayme Stevenson’s statement that she "will ask all selectmen to be available on Monday nights from 6:30 on," I was bothered by it. My belief is that our town should be represented by folks from all facets of our community. Her statement precludes commuters, like David, who want to serve Darien.

Our selectmen should represent all of us — not just those who can be home from work by 6:30 pm.

Democrats will bring action on flooding issues
I am writing to support the election of John Lundeen as First Selectman and his team of David Bayne and Vickie Riccardo for the Board of Selectmen.
Public health and safety are key responsibilities of local government. For the past two years, the board has done next to nothing to address flooding issues in Darien. This is a longstanding safety problem that deserves to be at the top of the spending priority list.
Lundeen, Bayne and Riccardo support the creation of a Flood and Erosion Control Board to provide necessary flood control planning. Let’s move forward now, instead of waiting for the next big storm to flood Heights Road and our merchants.
It’s our choice — responsible planning, or indecision and inaction. Vote for the Lundeen ticket on Nov. 8.
