Letters: Republican Selectmen Have 'Proven Track Record'
'Jayme is a smart, open-minded, down to earth, and hard-working woman,' writes Ciara Thurlow.

Stevenson offers energy and commitment
To the Editor:
It is a privilege to write a letter supporting Jayme Stevenson for first selectman. While I have known Jayme and her family for fifteen years, I have had first hand experience working side by side with her for six. We were co-presidents of the Darien High School Parents Association, served on the Council of Darien School Parents together, and also initiated the Darien High School Guidance Advisory Council.

Jayme is a wonderful leader reaching decisions and taking action after careful and thorough research. She is an active listener to all points of view. Personally, I so enjoyed watching her seek out good and effective answers to those issues — sometimes sensitive — that needed to be resolved. She put her energy and commitment behind her conclusions and actively worked to see them through.
My family will be voting for Jayme for first selectman. She is an outstanding leader. We will also be actively supporting Jerry Nielsen and Dave Campbell in November. We are proud of what they have accomplished for our town these past two years.

Republicans have proven track record
To the Editor:
Jayme Stevenson, Dave Campbell, and Jerry Neilsen are a team that has a proven track record. Together this dynamic trio was the first to win a four-year moratorium to keep local control of affordable housing. I respect their vision of thoughtfully embedding affordable housing in a manner that preserves the charm and character of our town.
This team brought families together in Darien when they brought back the tradition of July 4 fireworks after a nine year hiatus. Anyone who was there that night could not help feeling patriotic and proud to be a part of such a great American tradition. Kids were playing tag on the fields, everyone was listening to festive music, and we all were amazed by the professional firework display. This event brought the town together and it was all because our selectmen got it done for us.
Fiscal responsibility is innate to this team, saving 6 million dollars on an ill-engineered flooding solution while concurrently protecting the Baker Woods neighborhood. The police station and Weed Beach projects are all being done with lower construction and financing costs because of their collective business savvy. And last but definitely not least, this team holds a firm stance on prudent spending to help keep our taxes down.
With your vote, Jayme will be stepping into the drivers seat of a well-oiled machine. I am confident she will do this seamlessly. Jayme’s accomplishments are humbling to say the least. She has been a selectman for the past 2 years while simultaneously serving on the Darien High School Advisory committee and the Youth Community Committee. Jayme has been president of the Darien Nature Center, president of Royle PTO, president of Darien High School Parents Association, and president of The Depot. Did I mention she has done all of this while raising five children in town?
Jayme is a smart, open-minded, down to earth, and hard-working woman whom I greatly admire. She truly listens when spoken to and wants to honestly know how she can help. Dave Campbell resonates with confidence, candor, and street savvy. You know when Dave says he will do something that it will actually get done. His record as first selectmen proves this. Jerry Nielsen is my neighbor and friend. One cannot meet a more humble, hard working family man in this town. Jerry truly cares about the town he grew up in, and generously gives his time to make Darien a special place. They say true character is seen when no one is watching. Jerry epitomized this last year during our major snowstorms when I witnessed him shoveling driveways of neighbors who were not able to do so themselves. To this day, those folks probably still do not know whom to thank.
This team has my respect as well as my vote. I hope you will consider giving them yours too.
